How We Export Railing Kits from India to Africa: Senegal, Ghana, Gambia and the Maldives

Since 2011 Rachana International has shipped stainless steel, aluminium and glass railing systems from Rajkot to West Africa and the Indian Ocean. We run a related company, Rachana Architectural Solutions, in Diamniadio, Dakar, and supply projects in Ghana, the Gambia and the Maldives. This is how a typical export order works, so you know what to expect before you enquire.

Step 1: Measurement without a site visit

Most overseas clients send us a floor plan or a set of photos with a tape measure in frame. From that we prepare an elevation drawing and a glass cutting list. If the site is not built yet, we work from the architect's drawings and hold glass sizes until slab edges are cast.

Step 2: Drawing, BOQ and quotation

You receive a priced bill of quantities: glass panels by size and thickness, SS or aluminium sections by length, spigots, clamps, fasteners, sealants, and a separate line for freight. Prices are quoted FOB Mundra or CIF your port, in USD or INR.

Step 3: Fabrication as a knock-down kit

  • Handrails and posts cut, welded and polished in Rajkot, numbered to the drawing

  • Glass toughened and edge-polished by our partner plant, wrapped panel by panel

  • PVD or powder coating done before packing

  • Every kit includes 5 percent extra fasteners and two spare glass panels for breakage

Step 4: Packing and shipping

Steel goes in plywood crates; glass travels upright in A-frame crates with foam separators. A 40 ft container carries roughly 1,200 running feet of railing with glass. Documentation: commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and, where needed, SGS inspection. Transit from Mundra to Dakar or Tema is typically 25 to 35 days.

Step 5: Installation support

In Senegal our own team installs. Elsewhere we supply a numbered installation drawing and guide the local contractor over video call for the first section. For large projects we send a supervisor from Rajkot for the first two weeks.
