Aluminium vs Stainless Steel Glass Railing: Pros, Cons and Price Compared

2 min read

Both aluminium and stainless steel glass railings are frameless-looking, both hold 12 mm toughened glass, and both are made in our Rajkot factory. Choosing between them comes down to look, weight, price and where the railing will live.

Aluminium slim profile system

  • Continuous bottom channel (U-profile) holds the glass, no spigots visible

  • Very clean minimal look, popular for modern villas and apartment balconies

  • Light weight, easier on cantilever balconies

  • Powder coated in any colour or wood finish

  • Price from about 1,200 per RFT

  • Weakness: softer metal, dents if hit hard, and coating can chip

Stainless steel spigot or post system

  • Glass held by SS spigots or posts, handrail on top

  • Classic premium look, very strong

  • Polish or PVD finish, no paint to fail

  • Price from about 899 per RFT in SS 304

  • Weakness: spigots are visible, and 316 is needed near the coast

Which one for your project?

Apartment balcony with a flat RCC edge and a modern interior: aluminium channel. Bungalow staircase or terrace where strength and a rich finish matter: stainless steel. Hotel or showroom wanting gold or black: SS with PVD. Export projects: we ship both systems as knock-down kits with cutting lists, which is how our Senegal and Ghana projects are supplied.

Do not mix them wrongly

Aluminium channel with an SS handrail is fine. SS spigots on an aluminium base is not; galvanic corrosion starts within a year. Ask your fabricator which fasteners and isolators they use.
